Thanksgiving Round-up 2013

Thanksgiving Roundup 2013_TheHealthyGFLife

I frequently get requests for my holiday recipes, and while just about all of them are in my cookbooks: The Healthy Gluten Free Life, Paleo Indulgences & Make Ahead Paleo, I thought having my go-to recipes all in one place would be handy for my readers. So here you go!

When it comes to holidays, my family likes good food – and lots of it – but we don’t want to spend the entire day in the kitchen. I mean, family get-togethers are about family, not the stove! But when feeding a crowd, this can be difficult to achieve. No worries! I’m going to give you the secret to an enjoyable Thanksgiving (or any holiday) – the 3 P’s (yep, those p’s that I told you about in Make Ahead Paleo).

1) PlanI plan out the menu (or in my family the menu and then we divide the dishes up between my Mom, Sister and me), then I write out my grocery list by section of the grocery store (speeds things up when shopping!).

~Paleo Thanksgiving Menu~

- Turkey (we do basic roasted turkey, Pioneer Woman has a great basic recipe)
2) PurchaseI shop twice: earlier in the month for pantry items or things that can be frozen, then a few days before the holiday for my fresh stuff.
3) PrepareMake anything you can ahead of time! I look at the calendar and write out which recipes can be made, or at least prepped, ahead of time.
1 – 2 Weeks Before:
Make and freeze Butternut Squash Soup
Make and refrigerate dry mix for 5-Spice Pumpkin Rolls (combine dry ingredients in a container) – OR bake and freeze (then just thaw, heat & eat!)
Make and freeze Creamy Beef & Green Bean Casserole
Make and freeze No-Bake Pumpkin Tarts
Make and freeze Pumpkin Pie Bars
 2 Days Before:
Make Spiced Maple Pecans
Make Toasted Spiced Pumpkin Seeds
Make and refrigerate Sausage Veggie Stuffing (see recipe for instructions)
Make and refrigerate Cranberry Sauce
1 Day Before:
Thaw Butternut Squash Soup
Thaw Creamy Beef & Green Bean Casserole
Thaw No-Bake Pumpkin Tarts
Thaw Pumpkin Pie Bars
Mix & bake 5-Spice Dinner Rolls (make honey butter) – OR (thaw pre-frozen rolls)
Day Of:

 4) Enjoy! The big day arrives and because you were so organized, you get to enjoy your family! Or a few extra martinis, if needed.
Wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving!!
